Events and activities
We know that meeting and having the opportunity talk to other families with a member with type 1 diabetes member is incredibly useful and supportive. We arrange events that are often educational, sometimes just for fun, but always designed to allow members to find a support network. Information is power, especially when first facing the challenges of type 1 diabetes. But we also know that there is an ongoing need for information as you travel through life and circumstances change. We have a comprehensive library of information online and we also produce a quarterly magazine for members and supporters. You can read back issues or sign up to receive future magazines by email or by post.
Financial assistance programme
The financial assistance programme’s goal is to help financially-needy families to purchase diabetes supplies, such as blood sugar testing strips, syringes, pen needles and lancets. Read more.
Diabetes school care plan
As type 1 diabetes is a relatively rare condition, many schools and teachers do not understand the condition or know about the life adjustments your child will need to make to take care of themselves in school. We have prepared a pack that can be used to help provide this critical information to your school. The YDA diabetes nurse is also on hand to help you prepare the care plan, and if necessary, liaise with the school. Read more.
Continuous glucose monitoring device on-loan programme
The continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) is a new medical technology to provide a stream of interstitial glucose measurements. These measurements help medical professionals and patients to have better understanding of the blood glucose patterns, thus a better therapy can be devised to achieve better control. Read more.
