Congratulations Ruby — A Journey to the South Pole for Children with Diabetes

We are thrilled to celebrate Ruby Lau’s incredible achievement — completing her expedition to the South Pole to raise funds and awareness for children with diabetes.

Ruby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2012. Over the years she has openly shared her lived experience through her Roller Coaster Facebook page, sharing the realities of living with Type 1, the challenges of daily management, and the determination it takes to stay healthy and active. Inspired by that resilience, Ruby decided to set herself a challenge— ten‑day Antarctic journey — not only to reach the ends of the Earth, but to shine a light on the needs of children and young people with diabetes.

In February 2026, Ruby set off on her self-financed expedition to the South Pole. She used her Facebook page to share honest, inspiring updates and photos throughout her preparation and expedition, showing the physical and emotional challenges she had to overcome.

A heartfelt thank you
We extend our deepest gratitude to Ruby for her extraordinary dedication, courage, and generosity. Her efforts have helped to raise over $75,000 and raise awareness of childhood diabetes. Ruby’s journey is a powerful reminder that people with Type 1 diabetes can lead healthy, confident, and adventurous lives — and that, together, we can help create brighter futures for children affected by this condition.
